Responding to a Civil Disturbance
The University is guided by a commitment to the right of its members to communicate, discuss, and explore all ideas, and to engage in peaceful demonstrations.
Forms of protest have been a force for progressive change at the University for generations.
- Peaceful protests are a form of free expression.
- Most campus demonstrations such as marches, meetings, picketing, and rallies will be peaceful and non-disruptive.
- A demonstration should be allowed to proceed unless there is a threat of physical harm to persons, or a threat of damage to U of T property or facilities.
- If either of these threats are present notify the Campus Safety dispatcher at 416-978-2222 when it is safe for you to do so.
